Dr. Audrey Arona - Public Health Executive and Medical Doctor

An experienced public health executive, Dr. Audrey Arona, an OBGYN, has held several positions in the GNR Public Health Department since joining in September 2012. GNR is the agency that serves the residents of Gwinnett, Newton and Rockdale counties in Georgia with health inspections, health awareness and education, and emergency response. From 2012 to early 2018, Dr. Audrey Arona was a medical consultant with duties that included reviewing clinic chart audits and assessing laboratory competency. She also treated pregnant patients with STDs and took on specialized gynecology cases needing surgery.

In March 2018, Dr. Arona was promoted to three top leadership posts within the department: chief executive officer (CEO), chief medical officer, and medical and health director, with a wide variety of responsibilities. In these positions, she played a critical role in managing the COVID-19 pandemic for the largest public health district in Georgia.

In private practice, Dr. Audrey Arona was owner and partner at Preferred Women’s Healthcare in Lawrenceville, Georgia, from 1999 to 2019. Earlier, She held a similar title at Los Olivos Women’s Medical Group in California. Over her time as an OBGYN, she delivered thousands of babies. In addition to medical degrees from the University of Cincinnati and the University of Southern California, Dr. Arona holds a master’s degree in public administration from Valdosta State University.

When not working, Dr. Arona unwinds through interests that include art, ballet, and theatre. She is also passionate about horses.
